About
This is intended to be an about page for you! However, in this demo version, I'll make it into an about page for the theme itself.
I'm Lumi. I'm a writer, artist, and general maker of stuff. If you want to know a bit more about me, check out my cool personal website at birdrobot.party.
I made this theme because I want to encourage artists to make their own websites that don't rely on social media or other third party hosting entirely. Sure, places like Neocities and Nekoweb are also third party hosting, but you're not beholden to them. If they go down, you still have all your files. If, God forbid, they start being terrible and you want to leave, you're able to hit the bricks!
I know getting started with this stuff can be intimidating. I'm absolutely not an expert either. I think I'm pretty decent with HTML and CSS, but I'm self taught and I'm sure I still make plenty of mistakes. And to be entirely honest, I don't know JavaScript at all--the gallery code was not originally made by me! I just needed to cobble together a half decent gallery website for myself and my wife, so I searched and referenced and experimented until I managed to make this. I think it turned out pretty decent, so I decided to make a whole artist website template for general use.
I won't claim it's perfect, but it's a great starting point for anyone who wants to make their own website for their art, but is overwhelmed by the idea of coding it from scratch. It'll do the job just fine even if you don't significantly edit it. But if you want to get into the guts and make it your own, by all means, please do!
"Can I use this template for [thing]?"
Yep, as long as you're not making something that's homophobic, transphobic, racist, or some other dogshit along those lines."Do I have to include credit?"
No, but if you're using the template mostly unaltered, I'd really appreciate it!"Can I change--"
YES!"But what about--"
I DON'T CARE!"But if I--"
GO FOR IT, BUDDY!!!!
The entire point of releasing this thing is for people to take it and use it in whatever way works best for them. Use it as is with no changes, use it as a base for your original coding project, harvest bits of it to paste in something else, whatever. I did this because I want YOU to finally get off your butt and work on that website you keep meaning to make! The internet is a better and more interesting place with you and your art on it.TL;DR: take this code and use it in whatever way you find useful. Have fun. Make shit. I love ya.
